Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Technology, Healthcare and Consumer Services sectors led shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Oil&Gas and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.17%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.21%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.12%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH), which rose 5.28% or 23.51 points to trade at 469.14 at the close. Meanwhile, Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 1.65% or 4.51 points to end at 277.40 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 1.63% or 2.73 points to 170.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Johnson&Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), which fell 2.15% or 3.17 points to trade at 144.42 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) declined 1.92% or 3.31 points to end at 169.38 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) was down 1.71% or 3.32 points to 190.72.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which rose 10.60% to 976.30, Globe Life Inc (NYSE:GL) which was up 7.51% to settle at 60.00 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) which gained 5.28% to close at 469.14.
The worst performers were Live Nation Entertainment Inc (NYSE:LYV) which was down 7.53% to 92.26 in late trade, Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which lost 5.30% to settle at 114.11 and Northern Trust Corporation (NASDAQ:NTRS) which was down 4.96% to 79.56 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were WiSA Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:WISA) which rose 248.57% to 6.10, Jaguar Health Inc (NASDAQ:JAGX) which was up 50.08% to settle at 0.18 and Dynatronics Corporation (NASDAQ:DYNT) which gained 48.25% to close at 0.55.
The worst performers were Pacific Biosciences of California (NASDAQ:PACB) which was down 50.62% to 1.40 in late trade, Ryvyl Inc (NASDAQ:RVYL) which lost 35.78% to settle at 1.31 and Kaival Brands Innovations Group Inc (NASDAQ:KAVL) which was down 32.38% to 4.26 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1864 to 998 and 55 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2097 fell and 1248 advanced, while 135 ended unchanged.
Shares in Johnson&Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) fell to 3-years lows; losing 2.15% or 3.17 to 144.42. Shares in Pacific Biosciences of California (NASDAQ:PACB) fell to 5-year lows; down 50.62% or 1.43 to 1.40. Shares in Ryvyl Inc (NASDAQ:RVYL) fell to 5-year lows; down 35.78% or 0.73 to 1.31.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.32% to 18.40.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.79% or 18.90 to $2,401.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.12% or 0.10 to hit $85.31 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.16% or 0.14 to trade at $89.96 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.27% to 154.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 106.19.
