26th July 2012
European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso will travel to Athens today (July 26th) to meet with Greece leader Antonis Samaras.
The pair are expected to discuss the country's current austerity measures and the terms of the financial bailout package the nation has been receiving.
Greece has been at the centre of the eurozone crisis and there has been a lot of civil unrest, as the public are angry with the level of spending cuts and also feel the terms attached to the rescue fund are harsh.
Although a spokesperson for Mr Barroso insisted it will be a "regular meeting", it comes shortly after Mr Samaras warned that Greece's economy is in a worse recession than first thought. He suggested the country may not experience growth until 2014.
The eurozone problems have been having a very damaging impact on forex trading markets, as the euro has fallen to all-time lows against certain currencies and investors have been looking elsewhere.
