Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Marine Transport, Construction and Transport sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.56%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5214), which rose 5.32% or 40.0 points to trade at 792.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (T:9104) added 3.76% or 12.0 points to end at 331.5 and Nippon Yusen K.K (T:9101) was up 3.44% or 7.0 points to 210.5 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Nippon Meat Packers, Inc. (T:2282), which fell 2.61% or 95.0 points to trade at 3540.0 at the close. Nisshin Steel Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:5413) declined 2.01% or 24.0 points to end at 1172.0 and Haseko Corp (T:1808) was down 1.84% or 27.5 points to 1466.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1903 to 1260 and 295 ended unchanged.
Shares in Nisshin Steel Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:5413) fell to 52-week lows; down 2.01% or 24.0 to 1172.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.14% to 14.03.
Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.61% or 0.27 to $44.73 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.85% or 0.40 to hit $47.32 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.20% or 2.56 to trade at $1257.16 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.34% to 111.31, while EUR/JPY rose 0.58% to 124.34.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 97.38.
