U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.09%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil&Gas, Basic Materials and Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher while losses in the Telecoms, Technology and Financials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.09%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.12%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.10%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 2.33% or 2.48 points to trade at 109.11 at the close. Meanwhile, Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) added 1.28% or 0.66 points to end at 52.15 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) was up 1.26% or 0.49 points to 39.48 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were JPMorgan Chase&Co (NYSE:JPM), which fell 1.22% or 1.41 points to trade at 114.35 at the close. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) declined 1.18% or 2.55 points to end at 213.32 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) was down 0.94% or 2.43 points to 256.80.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Penn National Gaming Inc (NASDAQ:PENN) which rose 5.56% to 36.05, Gap Inc (NYSE:GPS) which was up 5.44% to settle at 10.27 and General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) which gained 4.16% to close at 37.56.

The worst performers were Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE:TSN) which was down 8.40% to 80.10 in late trade, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which lost 6.30% to settle at 177.93 and Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was down 4.38% to 287.74 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Helbiz Inc (NASDAQ:HLBZ) which rose 114.64% to 1.61, TOP Financial Group Ltd (NASDAQ:TOP) which was up 102.66% to settle at 20.57 and Karuna Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:KRTX) which gained 71.84% to close at 241.19.

The worst performers were Reata Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:RETA) which was down 32.61% to 24.06 in late trade, Uniqure NV (NASDAQ:QURE) which lost 27.02% to settle at 18.64 and Nuzee Inc (NASDAQ:NUZE) which was down 24.32% to 0.84 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2106 to 1017 and 122 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2412 rose and 1437 declined, while 196 ended unchanged.

Shares in Karuna Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:KRTX) rose to all time highs; gaining 71.84% or 100.83 to 241.19. Shares in Nuzee Inc (NASDAQ:NUZE) fell to 3-years lows; down 24.32% or 0.27 to 0.84.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.66% to 21.29.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.79% or 14.15 to $1,805.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.51% or 1.34 to hit $90.35 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.37% or 1.30 to trade at $96.22 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.13% to 1.02, while USD/JPY rose 0.06% to 135.04.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 106.28.
