U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 3.03%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 3.03%, while the S&P 500 index lost 3.37%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 3.94%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which fell 0.74% or 1.21 points to trade at 163.41 at the close. Meanwhile, Merck&Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) fell 1.12% or 1.01 points to end at 89.26 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) was down 1.12% or 0.49 points to 43.25 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were 3M Company (NYSE:MMM), which fell 9.54% or 13.62 points to trade at 129.14 at the close. Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:CRM) declined 4.99% or 8.68 points to end at 165.23 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was down 4.39% or 1.53 points to 33.36.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Electronic Arts Inc (NASDAQ:EA) which rose 3.57% to 132.17, Take-Two Interactive Software Inc (NASDAQ:TTWO) which was up 1.59% to settle at 127.47 and CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:CF) which gained 0.81% to close at 118.35.

The worst performers were 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) which was down 9.54% to 129.14 in late trade, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which lost 9.23% to settle at 162.60 and HP Inc (NYSE:HPQ) which was down 8.94% to 31.39 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Minerva Neurosciences Inc (NASDAQ:NERV) which rose 58.19% to 10.33, OLB Group Inc (NASDAQ:OLB) which was up 43.22% to settle at 1.69 and Advanced Human Imaging Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:AHI) which gained 17.59% to close at 0.68.

The worst performers were Domo Inc (NASDAQ:DOMO) which was down 27.83% to 20.69 in late trade, Athersys Inc (NASDAQ:ATHX) which lost 25.63% to settle at 0.13 and Starbox Group Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:STBX) which was down 24.96% to 5.32 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2722 to 393 and 123 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 3133 fell and 624 advanced, while 210 ended unchanged.

Shares in CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:CF) rose to all time highs; gaining 0.81% or 0.95 to 118.35. Shares in Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) fell to 5-year lows; losing 1.12% or 0.49 to 43.25. Shares in Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) fell to 5-year lows; down 4.39% or 1.53 to 33.36. Shares in Domo Inc (NASDAQ:DOMO) fell to 52-week lows; falling 27.83% or 7.98 to 20.69. Shares in Athersys Inc (NASDAQ:ATHX) fell to all time lows; down 25.63% or 0.04 to 0.13. Shares in Starbox Group Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:STBX) fell to all time lows; falling 24.96% or 1.77 to 5.32.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 17.36% to 25.56 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.23% or 21.70 to $1,749.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.37% or 0.34 to hit $92.86 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.36% or 1.35 to trade at $100.69 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 1.00, while USD/JPY rose 0.72% to 137.49.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 108.75.
