U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.03%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Consumer Services, Consumer Goods and Financials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.03%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.16%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.35%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM), which rose 1.60% or 1.94 points to trade at 122.84 at the close. Meanwhile, Procter&Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) added 1.00% or 1.55 points to end at 155.94 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) was up 0.95% or 2.73 points to 290.42 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which fell 1.64% or 2.01 points to trade at 120.21 at the close. JPMorgan Chase&Co (NYSE:JPM) declined 1.45% or 1.97 points to end at 134.08 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) was down 0.83% or 1.68 points to 201.79.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were News Corp B (NASDAQ:NWS) which rose 8.68% to 18.29, News Corp A (NASDAQ:NWSA) which was up 8.48% to settle at 18.16 and NRG Energy Inc (NYSE:NRG) which gained 5.69% to close at 32.80.

The worst performers were Signature Bank (OTC:SBNY) which was down 10.60% to 0.12 in late trade, First Republic Bank (OTC:FRCB) which lost 6.87% to settle at 0.39 and Gen Digital Inc (NASDAQ:GEN) which was down 5.48% to 16.22 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were GSI Technology Inc (NASDAQ:GSIT) which rose 210.37% to 5.09, ARS Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SPRY) which was up 77.88% to settle at 8.04 and Meihua International Medical Technologies Co Ltd (NASDAQ:MHUA) which gained 42.37% to close at 4.20.

The worst performers were Assure Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:IONM) which was down 39.90% to 1.16 in late trade, Heron Therapeuti (NASDAQ:HRTX) which lost 37.22% to settle at 1.40 and AgileThought Inc (NASDAQ:AGIL) which was down 35.71% to 0.99 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1654 to 1267 and 107 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2068 fell and 1482 advanced, while 139 ended unchanged.

Shares in GSI Technology Inc (NASDAQ:GSIT) rose to 52-week highs; up 210.37% or 3.45 to 5.09. Shares in Assure Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:IONM) fell to all time lows; falling 39.90% or 0.77 to 1.16. Shares in Heron Therapeuti (NASDAQ:HRTX) fell to all time lows; losing 37.22% or 0.83 to 1.40. Shares in AgileThought Inc (NASDAQ:AGIL) fell to all time lows; losing 35.71% or 0.55 to 0.99.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.59% to 17.03.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.24% or 4.75 to $2,015.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.06% or 0.75 to hit $70.12 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.99% or 0.74 to trade at $74.24 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.59% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.87% to 135.71.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.64% at 102.53.
