Investing.com -- OpenAI said Friday that Sam Altman stepped down as chief executive and will be succeeded on an interim basis by chief technology officer Mira Murati.
The decision followed "a deliberative review process” carried out by the board that found that Altman "was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities."
“The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI,” the firm said, adding that a search process was underway to identify permanent successor to Altman.
As a part of the transition, Greg Brockman will be stepping down as chairman of the board, but remain in his role at the company, reporting to the CEO, it added.
