India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.51%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Consumer Durables, Power and Metals sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.51%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.44%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which rose 2.93% or 38.00 points to trade at 1,337.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) added 2.36% or 31.25 points to end at 1,358.00 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was up 2.01% or 26.00 points to 1,320.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were LTIMindtree Ltd (NS:LTIM), which fell 10.73% or 673.60 points to trade at 5,602.00 at the close. NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) declined 3.14% or 9.70 points to end at 299.60 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) was down 3.04% or 46.80 points to 1,490.70.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 2.80% to 1,335.65, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was up 2.16% to settle at 1,355.40 and Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 1.29% to close at 1,097.45.

The worst performers were LTIMindtree Ltd (BO:LTIM) which was down 10.76% to 5,602.30 in late trade, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which lost 3.26% to settle at 1,486.80 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 3.23% to 299.35 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1062 to 1062 and 38 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1838 fell and 1834 advanced, while 101 ended unchanged.

Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) rose to all time highs; rising 2.93% or 38.00 to 1,337.00. Shares in Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) rose to 52-week highs; rising 2.36% or 31.25 to 1,358.00. Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) rose to all time highs; rising 2.80% or 36.40 to 1,335.65. Shares in Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 2.16% or 28.70 to 1,355.40.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.70% to 14.07.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.38% or 7.55 to $2,014.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.65% or 0.47 to hit $72.95 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.41% or 0.32 to trade at $78.20 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.07% to 83.14, while EUR/INR rose 0.02% to 90.53.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 103.06.
