
Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Public Sector Undertakings and Metals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.54% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.47%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which rose 6.97% or 91.75 points to trade at 1,408.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 4.05% or 53.75 points to end at 1,379.90 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was up 3.14% or 35.25 points to 1,159.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK), which fell 6.18% or 94.90 points to trade at 1,440.45 at the close. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) declined 5.58% or 22.25 points to end at 376.55 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) was down 4.66% or 67.20 points to 1,375.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 3.67% to 1,374.55, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 3.37% to settle at 1,160.80 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 2.10% to close at 1,029.45.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 5.87% to 1,443.95 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 4.19% to settle at 605.05 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 3.81% to 2,375.15 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1835 to 353 and 21 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2871 fell and 922 advanced, while 136 ended unchanged.
Shares in Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) rose to all time highs; gaining 6.97% or 91.75 to 1,408.00. Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) rose to all time highs; up 4.05% or 53.75 to 1,379.90. Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) rose to all time highs; up 3.14% or 35.25 to 1,159.00. Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.67% or 48.70 to 1,374.55. Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.37% or 37.80 to 1,160.80. Shares in Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.81% or 94.15 to 2,375.15.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.61% to 14.85.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.29% or 5.85 to $2,028.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.67% or 0.50 to hit $74.26 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.65% or 0.52 to trade at $79.54 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 83.17, while EUR/INR rose 0.08% to 90.53.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 103.07.
