India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.80%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil&Gas, Public Sector Undertakings and Power sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.80%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 1.76%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 8.80% or 20.60 points to trade at 254.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) added 6.87% or 185.85 points to end at 2,892.00 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 6.29% or 24.50 points to 413.90 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which fell 2.05% or 28.10 points to trade at 1,341.55 at the close. ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) declined 1.57% or 7.15 points to end at 448.50 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was down 0.89% or 14.85 points to 1,654.25.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 6.86% to 2,896.15, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 3.40% to settle at 253.80 and Larsen&Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 3.22% to close at 3,707.40.

The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 1.20% to 450.00 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 0.89% to settle at 1,655.90 and LTIMindtree Ltd (BO:LTIM) which was down 0.73% to 5,452.00 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1262 to 914 and 29 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2155 rose and 1629 declined, while 139 ended unchanged.

Shares in Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) rose to all time highs; up 6.87% or 185.85 to 2,892.00. Shares in Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) rose to 5-year highs; rising 6.29% or 24.50 to 413.90. Shares in Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) rose to all time highs; rising 6.86% or 185.80 to 2,896.15. Shares in Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) rose to all time highs; up 3.40% or 8.35 to 253.80. Shares in Larsen&Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) rose to all time highs; up 3.22% or 115.70 to 3,707.40.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 13.09% to 15.68 a new 6-months high.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.49% or 10.00 to $2,046.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.08% or 0.06 to hit $77.95 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.06 to trade at $82.89 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.05% to 83.16, while EUR/INR fell 0.30% to 89.94.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 103.46.
