Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 0.40%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Construction, Retail and Technology sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.40%, while the MDAX index lost 0.21%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.34%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (ETR:VOWG_p), which rose 2.74% or 3.20 points to trade at 119.84 at the close. Meanwhile, Vonovia SE (ETR:VNAn) added 2.36% or 0.67 points to end at 29.05 and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (ETR:BMWG) was up 1.87% or 1.78 points to 96.78 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bayer AG NA (ETR:BAYGN), which fell 3.92% or 1.18 points to trade at 28.90 at the close. Zalando SE (ETR:ZALG) declined 2.66% or 0.51 points to end at 18.68 and Fresenius SE&Co KGAA O.N. (ETR:FREG) was down 1.95% or 0.52 points to 26.12.

The top performers on the MDAX were Tag Immobilien AG (ETR:TEGG) which rose 6.34% to 13.08, Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (ETR:JUNG_p) which was up 2.63% to settle at 31.26 and Befesa SA (ETR:BFSA) which gained 2.63% to close at 32.78.

The worst performers were HelloFresh SE (ETR:HFGG) which was down 4.03% to 12.37 in late trade, Lanxess AG (ETR:LXSG) which lost 3.14% to settle at 24.95 and Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (ETR:BOSSn) which was down 2.58% to 58.14 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Atoss Software AG (ETR:AOFG) which rose 4.08% to 255.00, Verbio Vereinigte Bioenergie AG (ETR:VBKG) which was up 3.17% to settle at 20.34 and Jenoptik AG (ETR:JENGn) which gained 2.46% to close at 29.16.

The worst performers were ADTRAN Holdingsa Inc (ETR:QH9) which was down 3.79% to 5.84 in late trade, United Internet AG NA (ETR:UTDI) which lost 1.78% to settle at 24.32 and Bechtle AG (ETR:BC8G) which was down 1.65% to 48.34 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 335 to 281 and 32 ended unchanged.

Shares in Bayer AG NA (ETR:BAYGN) fell to 5-year lows; down 3.92% or 1.18 to 28.90. Shares in Vonovia SE (ETR:VNAn) rose to 52-week highs; up 2.36% or 0.67 to 29.05. Shares in Atoss Software AG (ETR:AOFG) rose to all time highs; rising 4.08% or 10.00 to 255.00.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 3.58% to 14.16.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.84% or 17.25 to $2,068.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.98% or 1.54 to hit $76.28 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.77% or 1.46 to trade at $81.04 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.13% to 1.09, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.15% to 0.85.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.23% at 102.98.
