
Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil&Gas, Public Sector Undertakings and Metals sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.45%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.39%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 6.73% or 39.35 points to trade at 623.65 at the close. Meanwhile, State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) added 4.20% or 29.95 points to end at 743.40 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 3.60% or 9.35 points to 268.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which fell 2.68% or 35.55 points to trade at 1,292.90 at the close. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) declined 2.22% or 32.40 points to end at 1,425.35 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) was down 1.41% or 21.80 points to 1,520.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 4.15% to 742.70, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 2.43% to settle at 141.25 and Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 2.40% to close at 1,096.55.
The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 2.78% to 1,292.35 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 1.26% to settle at 1,522.50 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 1.08% to 4,104.15 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1398 to 729 and 52 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2314 rose and 1390 declined, while 82 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) rose to all time highs; up 6.73% or 39.35 to 623.65. Shares in State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) rose to all time highs; up 4.20% or 29.95 to 743.40. Shares in State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) rose to all time highs; up 4.15% or 29.60 to 742.70.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.36% to 15.44.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.19% or 3.85 to $2,003.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.19% or 0.15 to hit $78.02 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.25% or 0.21 to trade at $82.98 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 83.04, while EUR/INR fell 0.18% to 88.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 104.85.
