U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.01%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Utilities and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.01%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.70%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.10%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 2.13% or 0.64 points to trade at 30.72 at the close. Meanwhile, JPMorgan Chase&Co (NYSE:JPM) added 1.92% or 3.79 points to end at 200.71 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 1.66% or 3.10 points to 189.98 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which fell 2.25% or 6.28 points to trade at 272.29 at the close. Johnson&Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) declined 1.82% or 2.73 points to end at 146.97 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) was down 1.68% or 8.66 points to 508.17.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Deckers Outdoor Corporation (NYSE:DECK) which rose 14.23% to 1,033.36, First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which was up 10.78% to settle at 276.74 and Ross Stores Inc (NASDAQ:ROST) which gained 7.79% to close at 142.13.

The worst performers were Intuit Inc (NASDAQ:INTU) which was down 8.35% to 606.99 in late trade, Dayforce Inc (NYSE:DAY) which lost 7.60% to settle at 56.18 and Elevance Health Inc (NYSE:ELV) which was down 4.18% to 521.22 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Innovative Eyewear Inc (NASDAQ:LUCY) which rose 428.49% to 0.98, Akanda Corp (NASDAQ:AKAN) which was up 71.97% to settle at 4.11 and Onemednet Corp (NASDAQ:ONMD) which gained 56.46% to close at 2.30.

The worst performers were Verastem Inc (NASDAQ:VSTM) which was down 66.17% to 4.12 in late trade, Sensei Biotherapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:SNSE) which lost 45.89% to settle at 0.79 and Genelux Corp (NASDAQ:GNLX) which was down 43.04% to 2.62 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2004 to 826 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2045 rose and 1293 declined, while 140 ended unchanged.

Shares in Deckers Outdoor Corporation (NYSE:DECK) rose to all time highs; rising 14.23% or 128.71 to 1,033.36. Shares in First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 10.78% or 26.93 to 276.74. Shares in Dayforce Inc (NYSE:DAY) fell to 52-week lows; down 7.60% or 4.62 to 56.18. Shares in Verastem Inc (NASDAQ:VSTM) fell to 52-week lows; down 66.17% or 8.06 to 4.12. Shares in Genelux Corp (NASDAQ:GNLX) fell to all time lows; down 43.04% or 1.98 to 2.62.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.58% to 11.93.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.07% or 1.65 to $2,335.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.16% or 0.89 to hit $77.76 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.97% or 0.79 to trade at $82.15 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.31% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.00% to 156.93.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 104.65.
