The Dow Jones finished trading yesterday (December 6th) up by 52 points amid growing hopes of a comprehensive end to bailout worries in the eurozone.
Overall, the S&P 500 rose by 0.1 per cent, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fared more strongly - rising by 0.4 per cent to finish at 12,150.13.
Two of the strongest performers in the US market were agricultural supplies company Monsanto Co (up 2.8 per cent) and drug developer Pfizer (up by two per cent).
"We are coming to a head in Europe and it's no longer about the small countries like Greece," said Paul Zemsky, chief investment officer at ING Investment Management.
Meanwhile, futures markets showed positive action yesterday following talks between French president Nicolas Sarkozy and German chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday.
Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose by 0.78 per cent, while Nasdaq 100 futures were up by 0.74 per cent and the S&P 500 futures sector saw gains of 0.86 per cent.
