Global stock markets are swinging between large gains and losses this week, as fears about China’s economy and uncertainty over the Federal Reserve’s interest rate timetable grip investors.
European markets headed down again on Wednesday after enjoying their best day in four years in the previous session.
Earlier, Chinese stocks posted another loss in a highly volatile session despite easing measures announced by the government.
While volatility is high in equities, it’s a different story for key commodities like oil and gold.
Oil remains anchored near a six-year low, with US light crude struggling to find the impetus to move beyond $40 a barrel.
Gold also hovered between small gains and losses. Gold futures on the Comex in New York inched down to $1,133/oz.
