European stocks rose strongly in early trade on Friday, after some Asian stocks firmed overnight following a downbeat session on Wall Street.
The Stoxx Europe 600 was up two per cent, while in Frankfurt the DAX climbed 2.2 per cent.
London’s FTSE 100 also rose two per cent as upbeat comments from Fed chair Janet Yellen boosted market sentiment.
Earlier, the Nikkei in Japan had risen 1.76 per cent, but was the only real gainer as stocks in China, Hong Kong and Australia slipped.
US stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the Dow Jones closing 79 points lower after a 6.3 per cent fall for Caterpillar.
The Dow remains more than ten per cent off its 52-week peak in correction territory.
However, stocks futures trading pointed to a higher open for the Nasdaq and S&P 500 on Friday.
