Banks take centre stage this week as the third-quarter earnings season gets into full swing.
JPMorgan Chase kicks things off on Tuesday, with Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs and Citi following later in the week along with BlackRock and US Bancorp.
According to Reuters, financials are forecast to show earnings growth of 8.4 per cent, which is about half the 17.8 per cent expected at the start of the year.
It’s not been a great year for banks, with the S&P 500 financials index down 5.6 per cent in 2015 against a drop of 2.2 per cent for the index as a whole.
Also releasing results this week is Netflix, whose shares have more than doubled this year.
Unilever, General Electric, Rio Tinto and Intel are among some of the other big blue chip releases to watch out for.
