In the markets this week, US tech stocks are in sharp focus for investors as several of the biggest companies provide their third-quarter earnings results.
After IBM got things started on Monday, markets turn their attention to releases from Microsoft, Amazon, Yahoo and eBay.
Alphabet - the new trading name for Google - is also set to reveal its third quarter earnings on Thursday.
Last week saw the Nasdaq outperform the other major US averages with a gain of 1.16 per cent, meaning it has risen for three weeks in a row.
In addition to technology stocks, investors are watching a busy week of corporate earnings in other sectors.
Caterpillar is among the big blue chips in action and its third-quarter results could make for some interesting reading after the company was forced last month to lower its revenue forecasts and cut 10,000 jobs.
Other large-cap stocks with earnings releases this week include American Airlines, AT&T, American Express and McDonald’s.
