Its services include front-end engineering tests (testing of semiconductor prototypes before mass production), wafer probing (the process whereby chips are tested for defects), packaging/assembly (the processing of bare semiconductors to finished semiconductor), final testing (to ensure each semiconductor chip functions to specification) and design manufacturing (manufacturing services from board design to systems assembly).

Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc. was founded in 1984. In 2016, together with Siliconware Precision Industries, it formed a new holding company named ASE Technology Holding Company Ltd.

The company trades as ASE Technology Holding Company Ltd. on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (ordinary shares) and the New York Stock Exchange (American Depositary Receipts).
