Investing.com -- Advance ticket sales for Taylor Swift's "Eras Tour" concert film demolished AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc's (NYSE:AMC) record mere hours after they went on sale, according to a statement from the cinema chain.
First-day ticket sales over a full day period for the movie amounted to $26 million on Thursday, AMC said, shattering the previous record of $16.9M set by comic book adventure "Spider-Man: No Way Home." That prior high was broken less than three hours after tickets were made available, the Kansas-based company noted.
The figure only pertains to presales, suggesting that the actual number of tickets sold may be far higher.
Due to what it described as "unprecedented demand," AMC announced that it would be adding more showtimes to increase capacity "where necessary and available."
AMC said its theaters will run at least four showings per day on Thursdays through to Sundays after the film opens on October 13.
The early box office success of the picture mirrors the rush to secure tickets to the singer's world tour. Demand for the concert surged, wreaking havoc on the website of ticket vendor Ticketmaster and leaving legions of fans without access to one of the most popular concerts in recent memory. According to AMC, these unlucky fans have helped to fuel the clamor to see the film.
