Investing.com-- Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) plane deliveries to China were delayed in recent weeks due to a Chinese regulatory review of certain cockpit components, Reuters reported on Wednesday citing a source familiar with the matter.
The report said that the Civil Aviation Administration of China was reviewing the batteries powering the cockpit’s voice recorder. Boeing was working with its Chinese customers over the timing of their deliveries.
Boeing has delivered 22 aircraft to China in 2024 until the end of April, but had not made any new deliveries in recent weeks, the Reuters report said.
The plane maker had in January resumed deliveries of its 737 MAX jet to Chinese airlines, after a nearly five-year import ban. China was among the first countries to ground the MAX model after two high-profile accidents in 2018 and 2019.
But Beijing’s renewed scrutiny of Boeing could now be fueled by trade tensions, especially after the U.S. imposed increased tariffs on $18 billion worth of Chinese imports earlier in May.
China had reportedly banned some U.S. firms from importing and exporting activities related to the country, including arms shipments to Taiwan, and had also forbidden some firms from making new investments in the mainland. Boeing Defense, Space&Security was on the list of blacklisted firms.
