Germany stocks higher at close of trade; DAX up 0.35%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Food&Beverages and Chemicals sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.35%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.45%, and the TecDAX index added 0.25%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (ETR:RWEG), which rose 7.18% or 2.75 points to trade at 41.07 at the close. Meanwhile, Covestro AG (ETR:1COV) added 2.33% or 0.70 points to end at 30.78 and BASF SE NA O.N. (ETR:BASFN) was up 2.12% or 0.89 points to 42.94 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (ETR:DBKGn), which fell 1.95% or 0.16 points to trade at 8.19 at the close. Adidas AG (ETR:ADSGN) declined 1.65% or 2.38 points to end at 141.98 and Allianz SE VNA O.N. (ETR:ALVG) was down 1.64% or 2.78 points to 166.36.

The top performers on the MDAX were Encavis AG (ETR:ECVG) which rose 10.01% to 21.55, Aixtron SE (ETR:AIXGn) which was up 5.99% to settle at 24.05 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (ETR:TKAG) which gained 5.35% to close at 5.99.

The worst performers were Siemens Energy AG (ETR:ENR1n) which was down 3.32% to 13.67 in late trade, Commerzbank AG O.N. (ETR:CBKG) which lost 2.30% to settle at 6.88 and Rheinmetall AG (ETR:RHMG) which was down 2.27% to 152.85 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE (ETR:AIXGn) which rose 5.99% to 24.05, SMA Solar Technology AG (ETR:S92G) which was up 3.05% to settle at 51.30 and Nagarro SE (ETR:NA9n) which gained 2.04% to close at 100.20.

The worst performers were Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) which was down 1.91% to 61.50 in late trade, United Internet AG NA (ETR:UTDI) which lost 1.00% to settle at 21.70 and Freenet AG NA (ETR:FNTGn) which was down 0.79% to 21.39 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 378 to 295 and 86 ended unchanged.

Shares in Adidas AG (ETR:ADSGN) fell to 5-year lows; down 1.65% or 2.38 to 141.98. Shares in Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.91% or 1.20 to 61.50. Shares in United Internet AG NA (ETR:UTDI) fell to 5-year lows; down 1.00% or 0.22 to 21.70.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 0.68% to 27.92.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.81% or 13.95 to $1,726.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 4.70% or 4.08 to hit $82.80 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 4.21% or 3.91 to trade at $88.92 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.84% to 1.00, while EUR/GBP rose 0.93% to 0.87.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.38% at 109.79.
