Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 0.86%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Construction, Utilities and Retail sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.86%, while the MDAX index declined 0.68%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.76%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Rheinmetall AG (ETR:RHMG), which rose 0.72% or 2.20 points to trade at 308.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Henkel&Co KGaA AG Pref (ETR:HNKG_p) added 0.35% or 0.26 points to end at 73.92 and Beiersdorf AG O.N. (ETR:BEIG) was up 0.04% or 0.05 points to 138.10 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (ETR:DBKGn), which fell 4.31% or 0.55 points to trade at 12.20 at the close. RWE AG ST O.N. (ETR:RWEG) declined 2.99% or 1.22 points to end at 39.55 and Bayer AG NA (ETR:BAYGN) was down 2.79% or 0.97 points to 33.79.

The top performers on the MDAX were Rational AG (ETR:RAAG) which rose 6.69% to 709.50, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (ETR:AFXG) which was up 2.52% to settle at 103.60 and Hensoldt Ag (ETR:HAGG) which gained 1.34% to close at 25.68.

The worst performers were Aroundtown Property Holdings PLC (ETR:AT1) which was down 4.40% to 2.17 in late trade, Redcare Pharmacy NV (ETR:RDC) which lost 4.25% to settle at 125.05 and Evotec AG O.N. (ETR:EVTG) which was down 3.63% to 16.85 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (ETR:AFXG) which rose 2.52% to 103.60, Hensoldt Ag (ETR:HAGG) which was up 1.34% to settle at 25.68 and Nordex SE O.N. (ETR:NDXG) which gained 0.80% to close at 10.14.

The worst performers were Verbio Vereinigte Bioenergie AG (ETR:VBKG) which was down 13.09% to 22.84 in late trade, Morphosys AG O.N. (ETR:MORG) which lost 12.53% to settle at 30.92 and Evotec AG O.N. (ETR:EVTG) which was down 3.63% to 16.85 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 424 to 192 and 38 ended unchanged.

Shares in Rheinmetall AG (ETR:RHMG) rose to all time highs; gaining 0.72% or 2.20 to 308.20. Shares in Beiersdorf AG O.N. (ETR:BEIG) rose to all time highs; up 0.04% or 0.05 to 138.10. Shares in Rational AG (ETR:RAAG) rose to 52-week highs; rising 6.69% or 44.50 to 709.50. Shares in Verbio Vereinigte Bioenergie AG (ETR:VBKG) fell to 3-years lows; down 13.09% or 3.44 to 22.84.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 3.11% to 13.61.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.28% or 5.65 to $2,022.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.51% or 1.79 to hit $73.16 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 2.16% or 1.66 to trade at $78.46 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.19% to 1.10, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.02% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 102.34.
