Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 1.60%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Retail, Media and Construction sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 1.60% to hit a new 1-month low, while the MDAX index lost 3.18%, and the TecDAX index declined 2.14%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Munich Reinsurance (ETR:MUVGn), which rose 0.84% or 2.00 points to trade at 240.20 at the close. Meanwhile, RWE AG ST O.N. (ETR:RWEG) added 0.79% or 0.30 points to end at 38.38 and Hannover Rueck SE (ETR:HNRGn) was up 0.37% or 0.55 points to 147.45 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Zalando SE (ETR:ZALG), which fell 4.59% or 1.06 points to trade at 22.05 at the close. MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (ETR:MTXGn) declined 3.32% or 5.85 points to end at 170.10 and Airbus Group SE (ETR:AIRG) was down 3.08% or 3.01 points to 94.86.

The top performers on the MDAX were Fuchs Petrolub AG VZO Pref (ETR:FPE3_p) which rose 1.70% to 27.44, Uniper SE (ETR:UN01) which was up 0.28% to settle at 5.40 and Evonik Industries AG (ETR:EVKn) which lost 0.65% to close at 18.48.

The worst performers were Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) which was down 8.32% to 64.16 in late trade, GEA Group AG (ETR:G1AG) which lost 6.75% to settle at 32.35 and Rheinmetall AG (ETR:RHMG) which was down 5.81% to 149.20 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were 11 AG (ETR:1U1) which rose 0.06% to 16.01, Deutsche Telekom AG Na (ETR:DTEGn) which was down 0.48% to settle at 18.70 and Siemens Healthineers AG (ETR:SHLG) which lost 0.55% to close at 48.46.

The worst performers were Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) which was down 8.32% to 64.16 in late trade, Hensoldt Ag (ETR:HAGG) which lost 7.66% to settle at 20.50 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (ETR:NEKG) which was down 5.30% to 55.78 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 561 to 137 and 58 ended unchanged.

Shares in Zalando SE (ETR:ZALG) fell to 5-year lows; falling 4.59% or 1.06 to 22.05. Shares in Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) fell to 52-week lows; losing 8.32% or 5.82 to 64.16. Shares in GEA Group AG (ETR:G1AG) fell to 52-week lows; down 6.75% or 2.34 to 32.35. Shares in Evonik Industries AG (ETR:EVKn) fell to 52-week lows; down 0.65% or 0.12 to 18.48. Shares in Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) fell to 52-week lows; down 8.32% or 5.82 to 64.16.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 1.99% to 29.22.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.05% or 18.15 to $1,708.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 3.62% or 3.24 to hit $86.31 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 3.64% or 3.48 to trade at $92.16 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 1.14% to 0.99, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.40% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.93% at 109.68.
