Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 1.71%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Retail, Technology and Consumer&Cyclical sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 1.71% to hit a new 52-week low, while the MDAX index fell 2.40%, and the TecDAX index fell 2.31%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Hannover Rueck SE (ETR:HNRGn), which rose 3.00% or 4.45 points to trade at 153.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Munich Reinsurance (ETR:MUVGn) added 2.42% or 5.80 points to end at 245.50 and Merck KGaA (ETR:MRCG) was up 0.65% or 1.05 points to 163.60 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Porsche Automobil Holding SE (ETR:PSHG_p), which fell 10.93% or 7.42 points to trade at 60.48 at the close. Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (ETR:VOWG_p) declined 6.85% or 9.44 points to end at 128.46 and Continental AG O.N. (ETR:CONG) was down 6.63% or 3.18 points to 44.77.

The top performers on the MDAX were Rational AG (ETR:RAAG) which rose 12.55% to 484.20, Stroeer SE (ETR:SAXG) which was up 1.49% to settle at 36.88 and Rheinmetall AG (ETR:RHMG) which gained 1.09% to close at 162.10.

The worst performers were Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) which was down 10.78% to 29.23 in late trade, Wacker Chemie O.N. (ETR:WCHG) which lost 9.57% to settle at 103.90 and Kion Group AG (ETR:KGX) which was down 8.09% to 19.31 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Siemens Healthineers AG (ETR:SHLG) which rose 0.31% to 42.01, Hensoldt Ag (ETR:HAGG) which was up 0.24% to settle at 20.65 and Software AG (ETR:SOWGn) which lost 0.43% to close at 23.20.

The worst performers were Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) which was down 10.78% to 29.23 in late trade, Siltronic AG (ETR:WAFGn) which lost 7.58% to settle at 56.10 and Nagarro SE (ETR:NA9n) which was down 6.72% to 86.00 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 558 to 135 and 56 ended unchanged.

Shares in Continental AG O.N. (ETR:CONG) fell to 5-year lows; falling 6.63% or 3.18 to 44.77. Shares in Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) fell to 3-years lows; down 10.78% or 3.53 to 29.23. Shares in Wacker Chemie O.N. (ETR:WCHG) fell to 52-week lows; falling 9.57% or 11.00 to 103.90. Shares in Kion Group AG (ETR:KGX) fell to all time lows; losing 8.09% or 1.70 to 19.31. Shares in Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) fell to 3-years lows; falling 10.78% or 3.53 to 29.23. Shares in Siltronic AG (ETR:WAFGn) fell to 52-week lows; down 7.58% or 4.60 to 56.10. Shares in Nagarro SE (ETR:NA9n) fell to 52-week lows; losing 6.72% or 6.20 to 86.00.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.80% to 32.77 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.15% or 2.45 to $1,667.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.39% or 0.32 to hit $82.47 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.02 to trade at $88.03 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.46% to 0.98, while EUR/GBP fell 1.19% to 0.88.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 112.30.
