
Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Oil&Gas and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.25%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.22%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Mahindra&Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which rose 4.21% or 62.60 points to trade at 1,550.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) added 3.70% or 189.05 points to end at 5,300.00 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 2.03% or 6.45 points to 323.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which fell 1.77% or 39.95 points to trade at 2,220.00 at the close. Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) declined 1.57% or 39.55 points to end at 2,479.80 and Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) was down 1.46% or 13.35 points to 902.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra&Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 4.09% to 1,548.15, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 1.67% to settle at 210.35 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which gained 1.31% to close at 1,508.00.
The worst performers were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 1.56% to 2,478.00 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 1.49% to settle at 1,122.20 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 1.22% to 1,375.15 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1209 to 859 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1977 fell and 1592 advanced, while 124 ended unchanged.
Shares in Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 2.03% or 6.45 to 323.85. Shares in Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) rose to all time highs; rising 1.67% or 3.45 to 210.35. Shares in IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 1.31% or 19.55 to 1,508.00.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.50% to 10.98.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.35% or 6.85 to $1,950.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.93% or 0.70 to hit $76.03 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.99% or 0.79 to trade at $80.33 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.03% to 83.29, while EUR/INR fell 0.09% to 89.05.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 105.52.
