India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.38%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumer Durables, Capital Goods and Technology sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.38%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.49%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 5.78% or 50.75 points to trade at 929.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) added 5.26% or 22.10 points to end at 441.90 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 3.16% or 17.65 points to 576.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which fell 10.93% or 58.35 points to trade at 475.30 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) declined 3.24% or 221.55 points to end at 6,626.75 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was down 3.15% or 36.25 points to 1,114.55.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 3.30% to 1,463.90, Mahindra&Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 2.33% to settle at 1,703.10 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 2.19% to close at 282.75.

The worst performers were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 3.53% to 6,605.90 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 3.25% to settle at 1,113.10 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 2.28% to 1,614.50 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1302 to 892 and 29 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2039 fell and 1768 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) rose to all time highs; gaining 5.78% or 50.75 to 929.50. Shares in UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) fell to 3-years lows; losing 10.93% or 58.35 to 475.30. Shares in Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) rose to 5-year highs; up 5.26% or 22.10 to 441.90. Shares in Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) rose to all time highs; rising 3.16% or 17.65 to 576.00. Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) rose to all time highs; up 3.30% or 46.70 to 1,463.90. Shares in Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) rose to all time highs; rising 2.19% or 6.05 to 282.75.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.26% to 15.62.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.67% or 13.75 to $2,039.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.57% or 0.41 to hit $71.87 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.43% or 0.33 to trade at $77.00 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.07% to 83.06, while EUR/INR fell 0.28% to 89.29.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.35% at 104.14.
