
Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the IT, Banking and Capital Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.10%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.14%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 5.72% or 15.20 points to trade at 280.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 2.47% or 14.80 points to end at 613.45 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) was up 1.17% or 143.45 points to 12,410.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Shriram Finance Ltd. (NS:SHMF), which fell 3.12% or 77.55 points to trade at 2,408.05 at the close. Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) declined 2.60% or 12.25 points to end at 458.50 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was down 2.43% or 26.80 points to 1,077.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which rose 1.22% to 2,567.00, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was up 1.14% to settle at 12,414.70 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 0.16% to close at 1,227.15.
The worst performers were Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 2.70% to 458.20 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which lost 2.37% to settle at 1,078.00 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 2.15% to 1,661.60 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1840 to 380 and 42 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2851 fell and 904 advanced, while 141 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 8.11% to 12.47.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.33% or 7.85 to $2,366.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.91% or 0.78 to hit $84.88 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.81% or 0.73 to trade at $89.72 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.21% to 83.44, while EUR/INR fell 0.06% to 88.91.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 105.71.
