Investing.com -- Stocks gave back gains and were trading lower on Wednesday despite positive earnings reports from big companies. Here are the midday movers for Oct. 19:
Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) shares rose more than 13% after the streaming giant said it added twice as many new subscribers in the third quarter as it predicted and forecast that number to more than double again in the fourth quarter, when it sees adding 4.5 million new viewers.
United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:UAL) stock rose 7% after it beat estimates and forecasted a strong fourth quarter, as travel demand remains high and business travelers return to the skies.
Generac Holdings Inc (NYSE:GNRC) stock fell 25% after the commercial and residential generator company reported disappointing sales and profit in the third quarter, largely because of weakness in its residential sales.
ASML Holding NV ADR (NASDAQ:ASML) stock rose 5.6% after it said new U.S. export rules for chips won't greatly affect its operations next year. The maker of equipment used to make chips issued a better than expected outlook for fourth quarter sales.
Procter&Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) shares rose 1.7% after the consumer product giant beat expectations but said the strong U.S. dollar would cost $1.3 billion this year, which is more than the $400 million it previously forecast.
