U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.40%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Telecoms sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.40%, while the S&P 500 index gained 1.02%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 2.03%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), which rose 3.43% or 5.95 points to trade at 179.62 at the close. Meanwhile, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) added 1.82% or 7.28 points to end at 406.32 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) was up 1.74% or 7.32 points to 427.37 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which fell 9.20% or 3.23 points to trade at 31.88 at the close. International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) declined 1.01% or 1.71 points to end at 167.20 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) was down 0.90% or 2.48 points to 273.12.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were ResMed Inc (NYSE:RMD) which rose 18.89% to 218.06, Alphabet Inc Class A (NASDAQ:GOOGL) which was up 10.22% to settle at 171.95 and Alphabet Inc Class C (NASDAQ:GOOG) which gained 9.97% to close at 173.69.

The worst performers were DexCom Inc (NASDAQ:DXCM) which was down 9.91% to 124.34 in late trade, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which lost 9.20% to settle at 31.88 and Old Dominion Freight Line Inc (NASDAQ:ODFL) which was down 7.24% to 182.42 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Zyversa Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ZVSA) which rose 721.40% to 4.99, Biodexa Pharmaceuticals PLC DRC (NASDAQ:BDRX) which was up 80.56% to settle at 1.30 and Immunitybio Inc (NASDAQ:IBRX) which gained 43.84% to close at 7.35.

The worst performers were mF International Limite (NASDAQ:MFI) which was down 77.68% to 2.33 in late trade, Nature Wood Group Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:NWGL) which lost 70.06% to settle at 5.05 and iClick Interactive Asia Group (NASDAQ:ICLK) which was down 51.56% to 1.24 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1879 to 952 and 81 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2072 rose and 1276 declined, while 121 ended unchanged.

Shares in Alphabet Inc Class A (NASDAQ:GOOGL) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 10.22% or 15.95 to 171.95. Shares in Alphabet Inc Class C (NASDAQ:GOOG) rose to all time highs; up 9.97% or 15.74 to 173.69. Shares in Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) rose to all time highs; rising 1.74% or 7.32 to 427.37. Shares in Zyversa Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ZVSA) rose to all time lows; rising 721.40% or 4.38 to 4.99. Shares in mF International Limite (NASDAQ:MFI) fell to all time lows; falling 77.68% or 8.11 to 2.33. Shares in Immunitybio Inc (NASDAQ:IBRX) rose to 52-week highs; rising 43.84% or 2.24 to 7.35. Shares in iClick Interactive Asia Group (NASDAQ:ICLK) fell to all time lows; down 51.56% or 1.32 to 1.24.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.21% to 15.03.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.31% or 7.15 to $2,349.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.11% or 0.09 to hit $83.66 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.36% or 0.32 to trade at $89.33 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.33% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 1.47% to 157.95.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 105.90.
