U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.43%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.43%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.57%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.73%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 1.81% or 0.57 points to trade at 32.09 at the close. Meanwhile, Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 1.46% or 3.04 points to end at 211.01 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) was up 1.41% or 0.48 points to 34.63 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), which fell 0.71% or 1.16 points to trade at 162.43 at the close. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 0.41% or 0.42 points to end at 102.77 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was down 0.36% or 0.80 points to 222.50.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:ZBRA) which rose 4.39% to 309.11, Caesars Entertainment Corporation (NASDAQ:CZR) which was up 3.74% to settle at 46.87 and Paycom Soft (NYSE:PAYC) which gained 3.64% to close at 296.28.

The worst performers were Signature Bank (OTC:SBNY) which was down 22.29% to 0.19 in late trade, SVB Financial Group (OTC:SIVBQ) which lost 7.73% to settle at 0.90 and Charles Schwab Corp (NYSE:SCHW) which was down 4.96% to 52.47 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Scynexis Inc (NASDAQ:SCYX) which rose 76.05% to 2.94, Palisade Bio Inc (NASDAQ:PALI) which was up 57.74% to settle at 2.65 and Accelerate Diagnostics Inc (NASDAQ:AXDX) which gained 41.49% to close at 0.71.

The worst performers were mCloud Technologies Corp (NASDAQ:MCLD) which was down 48.91% to 0.37 in late trade, G Medical Innovations Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:GMVD) which lost 38.29% to settle at 1.66 and Cyxtera Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:CYXT) which was down 34.69% to 0.42 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2044 to 933 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1816 rose and 1767 declined, while 157 ended unchanged.

Shares in mCloud Technologies Corp (NASDAQ:MCLD) fell to all time lows; losing 48.91% or 0.35 to 0.37. Shares in G Medical Innovations Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:GMVD) fell to all time lows; losing 38.29% or 1.03 to 1.66. Shares in Cyxtera Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:CYXT) fell to all time lows; falling 34.69% or 0.23 to 0.42.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.52% to 19.02.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.74% or 14.60 to $1,999.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.92% or 1.40 to hit $74.37 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.25% or 0.97 to trade at $78.56 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.57% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.18% to 132.60.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.45% at 101.83.
