U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 1.58%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil&Gas, Utilities and Technology sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 1.58%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.43%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.26%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 3.75% or 6.73 points to trade at 186.27 at the close. Meanwhile, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) added 2.89% or 7.09 points to end at 252.51 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was up 2.81% or 5.87 points to 214.57 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which fell 0.67% or 1.87 points to trade at 276.78 at the close. Merck&Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) added 0.18% or 0.20 points to end at 108.98 and The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) was up 0.80% or 1.48 points to 187.13.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Under Armour Inc A (NYSE:UAA) which rose 10.07% to 10.49, Under Armour Inc C (NYSE:UA) which was up 9.09% to settle at 9.12 and Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) which gained 5.21% to close at 120.62.

The worst performers were Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which was down 6.89% to 165.13 in late trade, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which lost 6.27% to settle at 167.82 and Charles River Laboratories (NYSE:CRL) which was down 3.84% to 202.10 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Larkspur Health Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:LSPR) which rose 123.99% to 21.66, Healthcare Triangle Inc (NASDAQ:HCTI) which was up 118.79% to settle at 0.35 and China Jo-Jo Drugstores Inc (NASDAQ:CJJD) which gained 114.80% to close at 7.11.

The worst performers were Adicet Bio Inc (NASDAQ:ACET) which was down 39.64% to 10.43 in late trade, SHF Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SHFS) which lost 34.74% to settle at 2.16 and Terawulf Inc (NASDAQ:WULF) which was down 33.48% to 0.80 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2055 to 1049 and 94 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2187 rose and 1523 declined, while 176 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) fell to 52-week lows; falling 6.27% or 11.23 to 167.82. Shares in Larkspur Health Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:LSPR) rose to all time highs; rising 123.99% or 11.99 to 21.66. Shares in China Jo-Jo Drugstores Inc (NASDAQ:CJJD) rose to 52-week highs; rising 114.80% or 3.80 to 7.11.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 9.51% to 25.00 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.00% or 18.10 to $1,792.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 3.52% or 2.50 to hit $73.52 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.90% or 2.21 to trade at $78.31 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.05, while USD/JPY rose 0.82% to 137.68.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 104.63.
