U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 2.47%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Consumer Services and Oil&Gas sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 2.47% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index gained 2.37%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 2.31%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT), which rose 6.07% or 10.88 points to trade at 190.22 at the close. Meanwhile, JPMorgan Chase&Co (NYSE:JPM) added 5.25% or 6.10 points to end at 122.23 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) was up 4.60% or 14.29 points to 325.10 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which fell 4.46% or 1.65 points to trade at 35.35 at the close. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) declined 1.67% or 2.38 points to end at 140.04 and Procter&Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) was up 1.25% or 1.59 points to 128.58.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Schlumberger NV (NYSE:SLB) which rose 10.33% to 50.41, Freeport-McMoran Copper&Gold Inc (NYSE:FCX) which was up 9.99% to settle at 32.03 and Huntington Bancshares Incorporated (NASDAQ:HBAN) which gained 9.47% to close at 14.45.

The worst performers were SVB Financial Group (NASDAQ:SIVB) which was down 23.95% to 230.03 in late trade, Robert Half International Inc (NYSE:RHI) which lost 8.55% to settle at 73.01 and HCA Holdings Inc (NYSE:HCA) which was down 5.69% to 196.74 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Huadi International Group Co Ltd (NASDAQ:HUDI) which rose 89.27% to 58.92, Altamira Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:CYTO) which was up 58.64% to settle at 0.52 and Missfresh Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:MF) which gained 57.50% to close at 2.52.

The worst performers were Immunic Inc (NASDAQ:IMUX) which was down 77.39% to 2.08 in late trade, Nextplay Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:NXTP) which lost 33.23% to settle at 0.28 and Kalera PLC (NASDAQ:KAL) which was down 32.49% to 0.28 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2284 to 826 and 106 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2479 rose and 1295 declined, while 200 ended unchanged.

Shares in Schlumberger NV (NYSE:SLB) rose to 3-years highs; rising 10.33% or 4.72 to 50.41. Shares in SVB Financial Group (NASDAQ:SIVB) fell to 52-week lows; losing 23.95% or 72.43 to 230.03. Shares in Robert Half International Inc (NYSE:RHI) fell to 52-week lows; down 8.55% or 6.83 to 73.01. Shares in Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) fell to 5-year lows; down 4.46% or 1.65 to 35.35. Shares in Huadi International Group Co Ltd (NASDAQ:HUDI) rose to all time highs; up 89.27% or 27.79 to 58.92. Shares in Immunic Inc (NASDAQ:IMUX) fell to all time lows; down 77.39% or 7.12 to 2.08. Shares in Kalera PLC (NASDAQ:KAL) fell to all time lows; losing 32.49% or 0.13 to 0.28.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.97% to 29.69.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.43% or 23.35 to $1,660.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.72% or 0.61 to hit $85.12 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.23% or 1.14 to trade at $93.52 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.81% to 0.99, while USD/JPY fell 1.80% to 147.43.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.91% at 111.79.
