U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.12%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Technology, Industrials and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.12%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.58%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 1.15%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH), which rose 2.13% or 9.98 points to trade at 478.87 at the close. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) added 1.80% or 7.14 points to end at 404.00 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) was up 1.67% or 4.44 points to 269.87 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV), which fell 7.37% or 16.45 points to trade at 206.67 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 1.60% or 0.58 points to end at 35.68 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) was down 1.11% or 2.04 points to 181.28.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:UAL) which rose 17.45% to 48.74, American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) which was up 6.60% to settle at 13.89 and Globe Life Inc (NYSE:GL) which gained 5.39% to close at 63.20.

The worst performers were JB Hunt Transport Services Inc (NASDAQ:JBHT) which was down 8.12% to 168.13 in late trade, The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) which lost 7.37% to settle at 206.67 and Prologis Inc (NYSE:PLD) which was down 7.18% to 106.50 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were INVO Bioscience Inc (NASDAQ:INVO) which rose 133.33% to 1.82, SINTX Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SINT) which was up 63.60% to settle at 0.04 and WiSA Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:WISA) which gained 51.64% to close at 9.25.

The worst performers were Iczoom Group Inc (NASDAQ:IZM) which was down 88.26% to 5.99 in late trade, Sunshine Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:SBFM) which lost 44.12% to settle at 3.80 and Dare Bioscience Inc (NASDAQ:DARE) which was down 41.70% to 0.28 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1509 to 1307 and 88 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2129 fell and 1210 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged.

Shares in Sunshine Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:SBFM) fell to 52-week highs; down 44.12% or 3.00 to 3.80. Shares in Dare Bioscience Inc (NASDAQ:DARE) fell to all time lows; down 41.70% or 0.20 to 0.28.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.03% to 18.21.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.84% or 20.25 to $2,387.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 2.99% or 2.55 to hit $82.81 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 2.83% or 2.55 to trade at $87.47 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.53% to 1.07, while USD/JPY fell 0.20% to 154.40.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 105.76.
