U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.11%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil&Gas, Utilities and Financials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1.11% to hit a new 52-week low, while the S&P 500 index declined 1.03%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.60%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT), which rose 0.96% or 1.25 points to trade at 131.31 at the close. Meanwhile, Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 0.23% or 0.34 points to end at 150.77 and Procter&Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) was up 0.10% or 0.13 points to 135.71 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV), which fell 3.14% or 4.88 points to trade at 150.60 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) declined 2.99% or 3.92 points to end at 127.34 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) was down 2.63% or 3.81 points to 140.96.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN) which rose 11.99% to 66.80, Las Vegas Sands Corp (NYSE:LVS) which was up 11.81% to settle at 39.66 and Costco Wholesale Corp (NASDAQ:COST) which gained 2.98% to close at 480.30.

The worst performers were DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) which was down 6.12% to 14.27 in late trade, The AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) which lost 5.48% to settle at 22.96 and Halliburton Company (NYSE:HAL) which was down 5.17% to 23.31 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were LAVA Therapeutics NV (NASDAQ:LVTX) which rose 97.50% to 4.74, DIRTT Environmental Solutions Ltd (NASDAQ:DRTT) which was up 40.98% to settle at 0.45 and Panbela Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:PBLA) which gained 25.96% to close at 0.34.

The worst performers were Powerbridge Technologies Co Ltd (NASDAQ:PBTS) which was down 68.57% to 0.50 in late trade, Scienjoy Holding Corp (NASDAQ:SJ) which lost 43.77% to settle at 1.67 and Snow Lake Resources Ltd (NASDAQ:LITM) which was down 40.88% to 1.88 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2645 to 541 and 131 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2628 fell and 1240 advanced, while 223 ended unchanged.

Shares in DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) fell to 5-year lows; down 6.12% or 0.93 to 14.27. Shares in Scienjoy Holding Corp (NASDAQ:SJ) fell to all time lows; down 43.77% or 1.30 to 1.67. Shares in Snow Lake Resources Ltd (NASDAQ:LITM) fell to all time lows; losing 40.88% or 1.30 to 1.88.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 7.82% to 32.26 a new 3-months high.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.56% or 25.85 to $1,629.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.82% or 2.22 to hit $76.52 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 2.81% or 2.39 to trade at $82.64 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.85% to 0.96, while USD/JPY rose 0.93% to 144.65.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.99% at 114.08.
