U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.34%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil&Gas, Basic Materials and Technology sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.34%, while the S&P 500 index fell 2.37%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 3.08%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were JPMorgan Chase&Co (NYSE:JPM), which rose 1.66% or 1.82 points to trade at 111.19 at the close. Meanwhile, UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) added 0.96% or 4.88 points to end at 514.79 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 0.57% or 0.75 points to 133.15 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which fell 3.21% or 4.59 points to trade at 138.40 at the close. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) declined 3.12% or 4.42 points to end at 137.13 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) was down 3.11% or 5.14 points to 160.14.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB) which rose 3.65% to 42.88, Wells Fargo &Company (NYSE:WFC) which was up 1.86% to settle at 43.17 and Delta Air Lines Inc (NYSE:DAL) which gained 2.30% to close at 31.08.

The worst performers were First Republic Bank (NYSE:FRC) which was down 16.45% to 112.57 in late trade, The Mosaic Company (NYSE:MOS) which lost 9.89% to settle at 46.85 and CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:CF) which was down 8.40% to 98.04 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Agrify Corp (NASDAQ:AGFY) which rose 53.75% to 1.45, Fednat Holding Co (NASDAQ:FNHC) which was up 48.02% to settle at 0.52 and Imara Inc (NASDAQ:IMRA) which gained 46.90% to close at 3.79.

The worst performers were TOP Financial Group Ltd (NASDAQ:TOP) which was down 73.47% to 5.49 in late trade, Alfi Inc (NASDAQ:ALF) which lost 69.90% to settle at 0.25 and Novo Integrated Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:NVOS) which was down 61.94% to 0.29 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2500 to 583 and 85 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2723 fell and 1013 advanced, while 189 ended unchanged.

Shares in First Republic Bank (NYSE:FRC) fell to 52-week lows; falling 16.45% or 22.16 to 112.57. Shares in TOP Financial Group Ltd (NASDAQ:TOP) fell to all time lows; down 73.47% or 15.20 to 5.49. Shares in Alfi Inc (NASDAQ:ALF) fell to all time lows; down 69.90% or 0.59 to 0.25. Shares in Novo Integrated Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:NVOS) fell to all time lows; down 61.94% or 0.46 to 0.29.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.25% to 32.02.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.67% or 27.95 to $1,649.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 3.75% or 3.34 to hit $85.77 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 2.93% or 2.77 to trade at $91.80 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.51% to 0.97, while USD/JPY rose 1.00% to 148.68.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.83% at 113.18.
