U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.16%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Oil&Gas and Healthcare sectors led shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Technology and Financials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.16% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.08%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.22%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 4.01% or 7.89 points to trade at 204.54 at the close. Meanwhile, Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) added 1.33% or 1.17 points to end at 89.44 and Merck&Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) was up 1.07% or 1.08 points to 102.47 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which fell 1.80% or 1.91 points to trade at 104.20 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 1.62% or 0.63 points to end at 38.23 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) was down 1.21% or 3.52 points to 288.07.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc (NYSE:DVA) which rose 6.49% to 88.38, Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ:PODD) which was up 5.55% to settle at 163.71 and Henry Schein Inc (NASDAQ:HSIC) which gained 5.35% to close at 67.50.

The worst performers were Illumina Inc (NASDAQ:ILMN) which was down 5.67% to 92.79 in late trade, VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which lost 5.03% to settle at 14.15 and Bath&Body Works Inc. (NYSE:BBWI) which was down 4.22% to 29.73 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Tenax Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:TENX) which rose 297.44% to 0.62, Tivic Health Systems Inc (NASDAQ:TIVC) which was up 78.33% to settle at 2.14 and Zyversa Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ZVSA) which gained 40.27% to close at 0.09.

The worst performers were Aclaris Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ACRS) which was down 86.44% to 0.64 in late trade, Mainz Biomed BV (NASDAQ:MYNZ) which lost 46.43% to settle at 1.20 and Verve Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:VERV) which was down 40.83% to 9.29 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1527 to 1375 and 82 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1763 rose and 1691 declined, while 123 ended unchanged.

Shares in Illumina Inc (NASDAQ:ILMN) fell to 5-year lows; falling 5.67% or 5.58 to 92.79. Shares in Aclaris Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ACRS) fell to all time lows; falling 86.44% or 4.11 to 0.64. Shares in Mainz Biomed BV (NASDAQ:MYNZ) fell to all time lows; losing 46.43% or 1.04 to 1.20.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 4.16% to 14.76.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.66% or 12.75 to $1,950.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.80% or 1.39 to hit $78.56 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.63% or 1.33 to trade at $82.76 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.16% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.12% to 151.68.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 105.54.
