U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.23%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Basic Materials and Healthcare sectors led shares higher while losses in the Oil&Gas, Technology and Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.23%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.34%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.33%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Johnson&Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), which rose 4.54% or 6.57 points to trade at 151.16 at the close. Meanwhile, Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) added 2.21% or 3.86 points to end at 178.86 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 2.18% or 3.66 points to 171.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which fell 2.11% or 1.95 points to trade at 90.31 at the close. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) declined 1.16% or 2.71 points to end at 231.31 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) was down 1.14% or 1.89 points to 164.31.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Bio-Techne Corp (NASDAQ:TECH) which rose 16.22% to 73.46, Garmin Ltd (NYSE:GRMN) which was up 13.11% to settle at 163.41 and Amcor (NYSE:AMCR) which gained 9.56% to close at 9.79.

The worst performers were CVS Health Corp (NYSE:CVS) which was down 16.80% to 56.34 in late trade, Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) which lost 15.88% to settle at 74.44 and Skyworks Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:SWKS) which was down 15.28% to 90.30 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Society Pass Inc (NASDAQ:SOPA) which rose 1,447.01% to 1.81, CytomX Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:CTMX) which was up 214.72% to settle at 5.13 and SYLA Technologies Co Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:SYT) which gained 122.45% to close at 3.27.

The worst performers were Cemtrex Inc (NASDAQ:CETX) which was down 73.20% to 0.31 in late trade, Beneficient (NASDAQ:BENF) which lost 38.55% to settle at 2.04 and CVRx Inc (NASDAQ:CVRX) which was down 34.75% to 10.12 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1694 to 1160 and 56 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2006 rose and 1346 declined, while 116 ended unchanged.

Shares in CVS Health Corp (NYSE:CVS) fell to 3-years lows; losing 16.80% or 11.38 to 56.34. Shares in Garmin Ltd (NYSE:GRMN) rose to 52-week highs; rising 13.11% or 18.93 to 163.41. Shares in Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) fell to 52-week lows; losing 15.88% or 14.05 to 74.44. Shares in Cemtrex Inc (NASDAQ:CETX) fell to 5-year lows; down 73.20% or 0.83 to 0.31. Shares in CytomX Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:CTMX) rose to 52-week highs; rising 214.72% or 3.50 to 5.13. Shares in Beneficient (NASDAQ:BENF) fell to all time lows; down 38.55% or 1.28 to 2.04. Shares in CVRx Inc (NASDAQ:CVRX) fell to 52-week lows; losing 34.75% or 5.39 to 10.12.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.66% to 15.39.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.11% or 25.65 to $2,328.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 3.32% or 2.72 to hit $79.21 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 3.13% or 2.70 to trade at $83.63 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.48% to 1.07, while USD/JPY fell 1.77% to 155.00.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.50% at 105.57.
