U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.56%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Friday, as gains in the Utilities, Financials and Oil&Gas sectors led shares higher while losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.56%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.88%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 2.05%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), which rose 6.23% or 13.55 points to trade at 231.05 at the close. Meanwhile, JPMorgan Chase&Co (NYSE:JPM) added 2.53% or 4.59 points to end at 185.84 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) was up 2.35% or 6.18 points to 268.93 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), which fell 2.56% or 4.59 points to trade at 174.63 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 2.40% or 0.84 points to end at 34.20 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was down 1.27% or 5.15 points to 399.12.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which rose 13.40% to 12.44, American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) which was up 6.23% to settle at 231.05 and Fifth Third Bancorp (NASDAQ:FITB) which gained 5.93% to close at 36.25.

The worst performers were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which was down 23.14% to 713.65 in late trade, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which lost 10.00% to settle at 762.00 and Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) which was down 9.09% to 555.04 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Golden Sun Education Group Ltd (NASDAQ:GSUN) which rose 661.22% to 3.73, Top Wealth Group Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:TWG) which was up 101.62% to settle at 3.73 and Complete Solaria Inc (NASDAQ:CSLR) which gained 68.22% to close at 0.45.

The worst performers were Connexa Sports Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:YYAI) which was down 57.20% to 0.89 in late trade, Sunshine Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:SBFM) which lost 46.84% to settle at 1.76 and Graphjet Technology (NASDAQ:GTI) which was down 33.09% to 6.43 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1915 to 922 and 78 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1712 rose and 1654 declined, while 115 ended unchanged.

Shares in American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) rose to all time highs; up 6.23% or 13.55 to 231.05. The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 3.94% to 18.71.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.22% or 5.30 to $2,403.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.66% or 0.55 to hit $83.28 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.11% or 0.10 to trade at $87.21 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.13% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.01% to 154.65.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 105.96.
