U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.17%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Technology and Oil&Gas sectors led shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Basic Materials and Industrials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.17%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.05%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.18%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 2.45% or 2.46 points to trade at 102.98 at the close. Meanwhile, Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 0.64% or 0.97 points to end at 152.74 and Merck&Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) was up 0.60% or 0.71 points to 118.39 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which fell 1.59% or 0.51 points to trade at 31.66 at the close. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 0.98% or 1.01 points to end at 102.34 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) was down 0.81% or 1.91 points to 234.62.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were First Republic Bank (OTC:FRCB) which rose 13.01% to 0.39, Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which was up 5.89% to settle at 10.60 and Viatris Inc (NASDAQ:VTRS) which gained 5.82% to close at 9.82.

The worst performers were Catalent Inc (NYSE:CTLT) which was down 25.91% to 35.38 in late trade, Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE:TSN) which lost 16.42% to settle at 50.73 and EPAM Systems Inc (NYSE:EPAM) which was down 4.51% to 231.54 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Trevena Inc (NASDAQ:TRVN) which rose 382.25% to 3.11, Ohmyhome Ltd (NASDAQ:OMH) which was up 328.71% to settle at 25.98 and Bellicum Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:BLCM) which gained 140.00% to close at 0.96.

The worst performers were Aptorum Group Ltd Class A (NASDAQ:APM) which was down 31.96% to 3.64 in late trade, Zapp Electric Vehicles Group Ltd (NASDAQ:ZAPP) which lost 27.85% to settle at 3.29 and Interactive Strength Inc (NASDAQ:TRNR) which was down 27.01% to 3.54 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1564 to 1373 and 101 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1822 fell and 1752 advanced, while 167 ended unchanged.

Shares in Catalent Inc (NYSE:CTLT) fell to 3-years lows; down 25.91% or 12.37 to 35.38. Shares in Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE:TSN) fell to 3-years lows; losing 16.42% or 9.97 to 50.73. Shares in EPAM Systems Inc (NYSE:EPAM) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.51% or 10.93 to 231.54. Shares in Merck&Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) rose to all time highs; rising 0.60% or 0.71 to 118.39. Shares in Ohmyhome Ltd (NASDAQ:OMH) rose to all time highs; up 328.71% or 19.92 to 25.98. Shares in Zapp Electric Vehicles Group Ltd (NASDAQ:ZAPP) fell to all time lows; losing 27.85% or 1.27 to 3.29. Shares in Interactive Strength Inc (NASDAQ:TRNR) fell to all time lows; losing 27.01% or 1.31 to 3.54.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.22% to 16.98.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.16% or 3.20 to $2,028.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.07% or 1.48 to hit $72.82 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.77% or 1.33 to trade at $76.63 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 1.10, while USD/JPY rose 0.19% to 135.09.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 101.17.
