U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.77%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Utilities and Healthcare sectors led shares higher while losses in the Financials, Consumer Goods and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.77%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.14%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.16%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 0.64% or 1.21 points to trade at 188.91 at the close. Meanwhile, Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 0.53% or 0.91 points to end at 172.28 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) was up 0.40% or 0.72 points to 178.87 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which fell 7.00% or 7.06 points to trade at 93.76 at the close. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) declined 2.34% or 6.79 points to end at 283.58 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) was down 1.84% or 6.69 points to 357.87.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) which rose 7.35% to 284.31, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which was up 3.12% to settle at 942.89 and The AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) which gained 2.95% to close at 16.23.

The worst performers were Lululemon Athletica Inc (NASDAQ:LULU) which was down 15.80% to 403.19 in late trade, Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) which lost 7.00% to settle at 93.76 and Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which was down 4.82% to 11.25 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Imac Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:BACK) which rose 92.25% to 2.48, Intellicheck Mobilisa Inc (NASDAQ:IDN) which was up 74.86% to settle at 3.06 and Canopy Growth Corp (NASDAQ:CGC) which gained 68.64% to close at 7.69.

The worst performers were Swvl Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:SWVL) which was down 35.86% to 9.30 in late trade, SINTX Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SINT) which lost 31.99% to settle at 0.09 and Brand Engagement Network Inc (NASDAQ:BNAI) which was down 31.73% to 7.51 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1948 to 917 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2176 fell and 1206 advanced, while 97 ended unchanged.

Shares in FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) rose to 52-week highs; rising 7.35% or 19.46 to 284.31. Shares in NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.12% or 28.54 to 942.89. Shares in Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) rose to 52-week highs; up 0.40% or 0.72 to 178.87. Shares in Intellicheck Mobilisa Inc (NASDAQ:IDN) rose to 52-week highs; rising 74.86% or 1.31 to 3.06. Shares in SINTX Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SINT) fell to all time lows; down 31.99% or 0.04 to 0.09.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.08% to 13.06.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.80% or 17.40 to $2,167.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.22% or 0.18 to hit $80.89 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.16% or 0.14 to trade at $85.64 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.47% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.16% to 151.36.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.44% at 104.12.
